BOOK DESCIPTION

Free Blue Waters Book from India R Adams Collection

“The blue water I sank through was angelic, quiet, peaceful…”

Whitney is a vivacious, highly spirited 17-year-old girl. Her motto, “Live life to the fullest” is derailed when the young man, who’s captured her attention, turns out to be the son of a drug tycoon – the same that provided the drugs that killed her brother. Whitney believes she simply needs to heal from her first heartache, not knowing she is a part of a devious trade, one against human rights, and she has been… since the day age was born.

Blue Waters is the first Novella in a Tainted Waters, and begins a story of deception, corruption, self-discovery, and love with all that it demands you sacrifice…

Book Boyfriends – Real Life or Fiction?

Book Boyfriends_Real Life or Fiction

I was writing a scene in Hostile Waters (a dark contemporary novella that is part of The Institute Anthology with authors Dani Rene, Anna Edwards, Murphy Wallace, Cassandra Faye, and Sian Claven) and got to a part where a young man crawls through a young woman’s window. It stopped me in my tracks. Yes, this young man is trying to help my female character after a gruesome event that just took place, but it was the realization of how many times I write about a man crawling through windows or staring through one, at hard times in my female characters’ lives, that had me stumped. Fiction or real life? Why not both? I believe we have book boyfriends because they represent something we crave. I also believe we can satisfy these cravings by manifestation.

Example?

Ryder in Rain (Stranger in the Woods series)

Dereck in Serenity (FOREVER series)

Link or Crash in Blue Waters or Black Waters (Tainted Water series)

And a few others that I can’t mention without giving plot surprises away.

So, since I can be an epic overthinker, I pondered.

My discovery? That came when I thought of Serenity, a beautifully broken character who struggles with domestic violence.

Here is the end of the scene:

My room no longer provides the comfort needed. An aqua blanket and useless treasures adorn the space, trinkets gifted in attempts to make amends for my mother’s guilt. The beautiful ivory-wood furniture and other expensive belongings do nothing but serve as a reminder. No purchase my mother made could erase the earthquakes that consume my world when she drinks. I guess it doesn’t matter anymore. She stopped buying objects, and my forgiveness, long ago.

I go to my closet and retrieve my journal from its hiding place. Heading back to bed, I realize I forgot to return Dereck’s motorcycle jacket. I remove it and hold it to my face, letting my nose send a message to my brain—I’m not alone. Sobs explode from my body. I normally get by, but tonight rips through a heart I had managed to shut down. The same heart Dereck has managed to awaken.

I place the jacket in my bed, right where I wish Dereck were, and crawl in next to it—the closest I can get to him, and lay my journal on top of the leather. My tears won’t stop, so I close my eyes and beg to dream of my cloaked friend.

A knock on my sliding-glass door makes me sit up in a hurry, afraid, but then I see the outline of his body in the moonlight. Dereck must’ve climbed the tree next to my room. My favorite tree. I will thank her in the morning. I slowly get out of bed, unlock the door, and slide it open. Dereck’s intense stance and the opening and closing of his hands tell me he is not leaving.

He inhales sharply as I silently turn away, walking to my closed bedroom door to lock it. He shuts the sliding-glass door behind him. Weakly, I crawl into bed and lie down. He takes off his shoes as he approaches my bed but stops when he sees his jacket lying next to me. Without a word, he places my journal on my nightstand, moves the jacket aside, and slides into my bed while watching me as if I might shatter into a million pieces. I think I might have, had he not come back.

On my pillows, we face each other, staring. The only time his hand leaves mine is to catch a falling tear. I close my eyes and know that, for tonight, Dereck will catch them all.

Serenity is a character I invented to start my personal healing with this subject matter. When writing for Serenity, I am always in my childhood home. I see the same walls… the same stairs she falls down, the same carpet that burned her knees—my knees—when we, both Serenity and I, try to protect our mother that is under attack by my violent father…

In different books of mine, the character’s trials sometime lead to this same pivotal point. A young woman wanting to stop being alone. How many of you can relate to this? Not that we all want a man to “save us”, but how many of us don’t want to face all these hard challenges without a partner to hold your hand and stand by your side, or wipe tears that can’t be avoided?

I will always remember what it felt like to lie in bed, staring out that sliding glass door, wishing for a miracle to appear.

It didn’t come.

Dereck didn’t exist when I was Serenity’s vulnerable age. I had to see myself through the horrendous times… I had to learn to count on myself. Don’t be fooled, though. I still found time to dream and wish for the man I always sensed was out there, somewhere.

Now, I have my real-life hero who supports me in ways I never knew a husband could. I may have been to hell and back, and paid traumatic dues for such love and affection, but wasn’t it worth it? I still have scars. A part of me still writes these stories where I’m creating an environment to not be alone as I stare out the glass; finding a loving reflection of a friend. Life is a journey…

So, who says Book Boyfriends can’t be real?

Not me!

My Book Boyfriend just had to wait until I was ready. I had to search myself, learn and grow, before we could have a relationship able to stand the test of time. I had to marry someone else, first, to learn what I did and didn’t want. I had to fail to appreciate success.

So, ladies (and gentlemen who are in search of their Book Boyfriend), if you haven’t found your dream guy yet, don’t give up! He will find you. Or, you will find him. Either way, it will happen when you’re ready—in this lifetime or the next.

Dereck is a wonderful fictional character that helped the lost girl in me, Serenity, find some true peace with parts of my past.

I hope you readers hold on to the notion that these flawed characters can be real, because I believe they are.

India R. Adams

The order of releases I had scheduled for 2019 have been altered, but I have such a serious reason why. I had released RED WATERS (the third novella in the Tainted Water series) and felt very emotional and lost since that book. I worried for my readers because it was such a tough read for them—Whitney went through unfathomable horrid times—but I ended up suffering also.

Due to another commitment in a series with other authors, I wrote Ivy’s Poison. This is another tragic and tough read that I struggled with, believing for the reason of it simply being a dark book.

When it was time to get back to back to finishing MIST to stay on schedule, my heart and mind kept getting dragged back to the next in the Tainted Waters series with Volatile Waters. This was supposed to be a standalone novella but has morphed into an epic-sized novel. And it has literally made me ill. I couldn’t understand why this book was so draining until talking with a friend, Michelle, in the book world. It finally dawned on me that one of the villains in this book was too close to home for me. It was hard to learn that I was abused by a certain type of sexual predator.

But I pushed on… continued fighting for my health and refused to let this book win.

Bound and determined, I wrote and wrote, until coming to a criminal scene Whitney experienced in Red Waters. Her POV didn’t give many details because she felt it was too gruesome to share. Yury felt it was important for readers to see how powerful Whitney really is. So, his POV takes us there and makes us live it.

That is when I knew why I felt I HAD to finish this book before I could move on with other releases or my own life. Two of my abusers have passed. They died before I had found my voice. Believe it or not, Yury, a human trafficker, gave me my chance to scream. Through Whitney, he listens to her say all she had to say, and in turn, he let me say all I needed to say.

Abusers have no right to do what they do. None.

It has been Yury’s determination to force me to see his story, as dark as it is. Now, I know he has been trying to help me all along. I will forever be grateful for his persistence and courage to grow.

Writing, I cried so hard as Whitney fought back, so tragically finally letting go of all she had powered through. As I wrote her words and actions, I realized it was me screaming and demanding justice for someone hurting me so deeply.

So, yes, I have a very serious reason why I am off my book release schedule, but for the sake of my sanity, it was a must because damaged souls are worth saving.

Inspiring Authors to Write

Admiring Authors for their Writing Abilities by India R. Adams

Whether it is Visionary Fiction, New Adult, Paranormal, as a writer I enjoy writing and sharing my enter most being with my readers.  I receive joy when and am inspired to share more through my writing when they purchase my books, follow my blogs, share comments, and ask for more from me regarding a series.  I cannot speak for every author, but I would venture to say, that most authors admire and are inspired through the feedback and action of their readers.

So, what do I think of sites that giveaway eBooks without the author’s permission? I think those site “executives” should imagine they have a little piece of land out in the middle of nowhere. It may not be much, and your friends may even doubt your sanity, but your heart tells you this tiny piece of Earth has promise because you can visualize all the potential this land has. And that is superb because you absolutely love roses, and you know this beautiful property can be
the perfect place to start a rose garden.

So, you drive your truck into town and buy all the tools necessary. That’s right, at Tractor
Supply’s register, you waltz up with your loaded cart and yank out your credit card with a smile
on your face. Why not?  Once the roses are grown, you can sell some to pay off this debt.
Right?

All the way home, you are dancing to the happy tune on the radio because you are about to
embark on a fabulous journey of becoming a gardener. It may not be as prestigious as a movie
star, but you don’t care. You’re following your heart!

Now, imagine yourself out in the field, with the sun beating down on your back as you prepare
the land for seeds. You wipe your brow, thinking, “Holy shit, gardening is no joke. This is more
work than I thought it would be.” But then you remember your vision of colorful roses
blanketing your land, so you get back to work, not caring what it takes because you have the
heart and pride to see it through. Even when the weather doesn’t cooperate and properly
water and nurture your planted seeds. Even when insects decide to nibble on your growing
flowers, mimicking the self-doubt growing in your mind, making you a little concerned that you
have taken on a project far beyond your means and mental capacity. Even when the credit card
company is sending you letters, saying, “Hey, we don’t care that your roses are not ready to be
sold. Pay your bill!”

Nope. You never give up.

And, one day, beyond all the odds stacked against you, your rose garden is done. It is a beauty
that can compare to no other. Colorful petals sing you praise as you stare at what you have
accomplished with nothing on your side but hard work, debt, and prayers.

Now, imagine this: as you are standing there in awe of your accomplishments, you notice a
truck pulling up to your property way out in the distance. Your jaw drops when you realize
someone has exited that vehicle, with scissors, and is now cutting away at your beloved flowers
and throwing them in the back of the truck.

“What the…” So, you run down your dirt driveway and approach the stranger. “Umm, excuse
me, but what the hell are you doing?”

The person keeps snipping away at your flowers. “Don’t mind me. I like roses so I thought I
would take some.”

You just busted butt growing these, right? So, you put your hand on your hip and say, “That is
stealing! These are my roses that I worked very hard for!”

The person lifts a brow. “How hard could it possibly be to throw some seeds in the dirt?”
You practically stumble backwards because this idiot is trying to belittle all the incredible work
you’ve done over the past grueling months. “Have you ever grown a garden? Have you ever got
up at the crack of dawn and worked all day plowing and digging and watering?”

Bets are they haven’t because, if they had, they would sympathize with the pain authors
experience when experiencing theft. And that what it is. No matter how you slice or dice it, it’s
theft.

Here’s the thing: Writing a book is so much more involved than most can even imagine. First,
you have to pick your field (your plot). You have to imagine (visualize your flowers), and then
you have to put so many other priorities aside to find the time to get in the dirt and dig and
perfect your land for all the seeds you have (write, rewrite, doubt your writing, write some
more…). And then, when you are sitting at your laptop (one of your tools you bought at Tractor
Supply) crying because you finally can type “The End” you realize this journey has only just
begun. Now, you have to send your prized possession off to people (beta readers) to see if your
months of hard work have given that story justice. After they give you notes and suggestions,
you have to go back into your manuscript and make adjustments, change scenes, and over all,
improve what you thought was already beautiful.

Is the book now ready for sale?

HELL NO!

Now, you have to send your manuscript to a professional editor. This person goes through your
hard work and says, “We have some work to do.”

You look at your blistered gardening hands and exhale deeply. “Okay. Let’s do this.”
By the time you are through all the rounds of editing, you are not only missing hair on your
head, but you are a bit exhausted.

Is the book ready for sale NOW?

HELL NO!

Now, your sweet baby needs a proofreader. And guess what. These hawk-eyed readers WILL
find more mistakes, sometimes even a time discrepancy in your plot. Does an author give up?
Not this one! I go back into my manuscript and make all needed corrections.

Book ready for—NO! It is still not ready!

Now, I need a formatter. Yep, someone has to perfect my book  not only for print, but eBooks.
One type of eBook? Wrong again. You need an epub, a mobi, a PDF… And you have to be sure
to have all the right layouts for all the different distributors you need to work with: Amazon,
iBooks, Barnes and Nobles, Kobo…. See where I’m headed? So much goes on in the background
so that lovers of books have another book to read.

Don’t forget about covers, wraparound covers, precise measurements for print, blurbs (which
are sometimes harder to write than writing the actual freaking book!), schedule release dates,
talk with bloggers, find reviewers (and cringe at all the rules that are put on us for something as
simple as a reader’s review of your work), schedule tours… all while still being a mom, a wife or
husband, and most authors have a normal job to pay their bills.

The list of what an author has to go through to prepare a story for readers goes on and on (and
only intensifies the more books authors publish), and we haven’t even touched the subjects of
advertising, social media, millions of other rose gardens being just as beautiful as ours, and how
us Indies are up against big dogs (publishing houses) who have much more experience and
much bigger Tractor Supply credit cards.

So, the next time you want to pick flowers from someone else’s property (download stolen
eBooks/PDFs), think of that poor little gardener who simply loves roses.

My mic has been dropped. Boom!
